There’s a proverb that states that the Allgäu is such a special place that it touches people’s souls – if they come here once, they will always come back. You can spot happy cows on green meadows between the Allgäu alps and the high alps, you will meet unique rustic folks and you can eat the best cheese. And here within the heart of the Allgäu, 1,000 meters above sea level, lies a beautiful small town, far away from the buzzing tourism business. Our BAUMCHALETS are situated right here, clinging to the calm, majestic trees where time seems to stand still. Up in our chalets there’s a place for everyone: For big and small adventurers, for peace seekers, for lovers.
SECRET TIPS - RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR DOOR
You can happily park your car for a few days: you won’t need it. Our stunning environment has a lot to offer in walking and sometimes hiking distance. We selected some of our favourite spots for you. We’re always happy to advise you on the nicest MTB-trails or the best deep powder downhill runs – just call or text us for our special tips and tricks.
THALER HÖHE SKIRESORT
In wintertime you can grab your skis or snowboards and just walk to our lovely family owned Skilift “Thaler Höhe”. You won’t find endless unnatural ski slopes here but playful curvy ski runs, supported by a modern snowmaking system. Usually the ski lifts are open from December until March. On Friday nights we have a special treat for all ski and snow-lovers: With floodlights surrounding the ski resort, night turns into day and you can go for some night snowboarding or skiing. The “Thaler Höhe” ski resort is a community project and the people in our small town really put their heart and soul into it. For the ones who crave steeper and longer ski runs, you can drive to the “Allgäuer Bergwelt” that is close by. And for the ones who don’t like to ski or snowboard, the “Thaler Höhe” offers rides on unique “Pistenbock” sleds – just rent one and use the lift to get on top of the mountain. Then enjoy the ride.

TUFFENMOOS
Is not only our local wetland but also within walking distance of the BAUMCHALETS. If you fancy a little walk or even a hike, both are possible in the Tuffenmoos. You can cross this beautiful nature reserve via little bridges or also on some exciting paths. You can experience the Tuffenmoos in every weather – it always reveals a new side of its stunning flora and fauna.
PFARRALPE
Within a small hike of about 30 minutes you can find the Pfarralpe – a farmhouse that serves food and drinks. You can either take a break there and just enjoy the view and the company of the farm animals or you can settle down for a bit longer, have a locally brewed beer and some cake or sandwiches.
GUMPEN & SWIMMING
It’s not easy to find the path that leads to our favourite bathing spots – you will definitely need our help with navigation. The natural pools which you can see in the photo lie within a dark green forest. Little waterfalls and the ice-cold stream of a wild creek keep those pools cool and alive. If you prefer a swimming pool that is a little less wild and where you can also buy some ice cream, Missen has a nice little public swimming pool and in Immenstadt you can find the stunning Alpsee.
LOCAL BREWERY
We definitely recommend a visit to our friend Graßl’s place. He runs and owns the traditional brewery and inn “Schäffler Bräu” in Missen. Here you can enjoy home cooked traditional dishes or even take a guided tour around the interesting brewery and learn all about beer. The newest thing at Schäffler Bräu is his tasty homemade Gin. You can reach the brewery by bike or with the car.
MOUNTAIN FARMER'S MUSEUM & CHEESE FACTORY
If you’re interested in Allgäu culture and history the “Bergbauernmuseum” in Diepolz is the place for you. Right beside the museum you can also find a local cheese factory – here they produce amazing products made from fresh local hay milk. You can buy cheese as well as yoghurts, cream, milk and much more.
ALPSEEBLICK - VIEWING POINT
This unique place is perfect for anyone who likes to take photos: In the distance you will see the beautiful Grünten (this mountain is known as “the guard of the Allgäu”), the pointy mountain chain of the Nagelfluhkette even further away, and of course the majestic Alpsee – a gigantic lake close to Immenstadt. Here you can take a break on one of the wooden benches or just lay down in the grass.
SALMASER HÖHE AT 1.265 METERS ABOVE SEALEVEL
In summertime you can cross the sleeping ski resort of our Thaler Höhe on foot on a winding street up the hill. After a short distance you will be standing on a ridge which you can actually follow as long as you want. Even in winter you can do this, maybe as a nice ski tour. On clear days you are able to spot the “Allgäuer Bergwelt” in Immenstadt and even lake Konstanz.
TRÄHERS ALPE
This is another hut that you can get to on foot or by car. This is a beautiful opportunity for anyone who isn’t a very steady walker anymore or who’s maybe too young to go such a distance. Here, like at the other huts, you will find a place to rest as well as cool drinks and homemade food to enjoy.
MOUNTAINBIKE PARADISE
The beautiful foothills of the Alps are the perfect environment for mountainbike lovers – from beginner to advanced. Right at your doorstep you will find meadow trails, gravel roads and root-covered forest paths.
You can find our favourite mountainbike trail as a Google Maps Link at the bottom of this text: It is a 20km loop trail, starting at the BAUMCHALETS. According to personal fitness and your bike of choice you will need two to four hours for this beautiful trail. It leads you over the crest behind our BAUMCHALETS, past mountain huts, to the Alpsee (alpine lake) close to Immenstadt.

What are some things to do right from the tree chalets?
Right from Thaler Höhe, you can go hiking, take a stroll, explore nature, go skiing or snowshoeing depending on the season, and simply enjoy the peace and quiet. Many guests choose not to take their car.
Are the tree chalets more beautiful in summer or winter?
Both seasons have their own special appeal: in summer, the terrace, the mountain stream, walks, the Alps and balmy evenings beckon. In winter, the sauna, hot tub, snow and proximity to the Thaler Höhe ski resort are major draws.
Is there ski-in/ski-out access?
The tree chalets are situated near the Thaler Höhe ski resort. Depending on snow conditions, this is a great advantage for relaxing winter days without having to travel far.
What are some worthwhile day trips in the Allgäu?
